Shakotan Peninsula & Otaru Day Trip
The Shakotan Peninsula & Otaru Day Trip combines the rugged, limestone-dotted seascapes of Shakotan Peninsula with the atmospheric frontier-era port town of Otaru. Start the day with a coastal drive to Shakotan Peninsula where cliffs & rock formations dot the coastline, culminating at Cape Kamui and its iconic lighthouse walking trail. For seafood lovers, Shakotan Peninsula is justifiably famous for top-quality seafood, with summer uni (sea urchin) being a local specialty (lunch is self-pay). We’ll then take a relaxing hot springs bath at Misaki no Yu Onsen, with outdoor baths overlooking the Sea of Japan: a truly memorable experience. In the afternoon, we’ll check out the sightseeing hotspots along the Sakaimachi Historical District & Otaru Canal, with its renovated warehouses & boutique shops, including the ever popular LaTao Chocolate, Kitaichi Glass & Music Box Museum shops. The century-old Tanaka Sake Brewery is also recommended to learn about the art of sake brewing, with free samples and purchases available. This is a wonderful day trip with both natural and cultural highlights that can be enjoyed by guests of all ages.
