2-Day Tour: Mountain Hut Overnight Hiking
The Mountain Hut Overnight Hiking 2-Day Tour is a demanding ascent up to one of Central Hokkaido’s most spectacular peaks rated at the intermediate/advanced level. The tour will start with pick-up in Sapporo and a 1 hour drive to the trailhead. On the way, we can stop at a convenience store for last minute supplies. From the trailhead, we’ll hike about 3 hours along a logging road, mostly climbing alongside a river, through primary forest and skirting a few ponds. Next, we’ll pick-up the hiking trail for another 2.5 hour hike across undulating terrain, with some steep sections. Eventually, we’ll reach the remote mountain hut, which is built in a horseshoe-shaped depression beneath the towering summit area. The hut is winterized, meaning there is a stove, firewood, cooking gear & insulated windows. Even in mid-winter, once the stove gets lit, the hut becomes very warm. It’s an awesome little rustic hut and a great place to spend the night.
The following morning we’ll hike to the peak, a further 2 hours from the hut. The unobstructed views from the peak are special, with Mt. Yotei & the entire Central Mountain Range in unobstructed views. From the peak, we’ll descend back to the hut to grab our gear and then down to the car, altogether a 6 hour descent. Lastly, we’ll drive to Hoheikyo Onsen, one of the best onsen in Hokkaido with large outdoor baths & beautiful landscaping. We can either eat dinner at the hot spring restaurant, or proceed directly back to Sapporo for drop-off at a location of your choice.
