2-Day Tour: Asahidake Onsen & Sounkyo Gorge
Make the most of your trip to Hokkaido on a 2-Day Tour with HNT! The tour starts with a drive to Asahikawa to learn about local flora & fauna at Hokkaido’s best zoo, followed by lunch in Asahikawa and a sake brewery tour. We’ll then head towards Asahidake Onsen, a remote onsen village tucked beneath the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range. On the way, we can fill up our water bottles at the voluminous Asahidake Freshwater Spring. At Asahidake, we’ll ride the ropeway to the stunning Sugatami Plateau beneath Mt. Asahidake, where wildflowers bloom in July and Japan’s first foliage appears in late September. The overnight at the resort includes dinner & breakfast with a few accommodation options across the budget spectrum, with the Bear Monte Hotel being a popular choice.
On Day 2, we’ll check out the nearby Tenninkyo Gorge & Hagoromo Falls - the highest waterfall in Hokkaido - before driving to Sounkyo Gorge. On the way is the artist town of Higashikawa, where we can visit local galleries. After a late lunch at Sounkyo, we’ll ride the Kurodake Ropeway where you can choose your hiking trail or just take in the splendid views. Lastly, we’ll explore the Sounkyo Gorge 8 Waterfalls Trail, where waterfalls tumble off cliff walls in a remote corner of the gorge. We can take a relaxing soak at a 7th floor onsen overlooking Sounkyo before the 3-hour drive back to Sapporo.
