Otaru, Yoichi & Shakotan Peninsula Day Trip
The Otaru, Yoichi & Shakotan Peninsula Day Trip combines the atmospheric frontier-era port town of Otaru with the rugged, limestone-dotted seascapes of Shakotan Peninsula. Start the day with a coastal drive to Yoichi, where we’ll visit the Nikka Whisky Distillery, one of Hokkaido’s most recognizable brands, to learn about the fascinating life story of its founder & sample award-winning whisky. Next, we’ll enter Shakotan Peninsula where cliffs & rock formations dot the coastline, culminating at Cape Kamui and its iconic lighthouse walking trail. For seafood lovers, Shakotan Peninsula is justifiably famous for top-quality seafood, with summer uni (sea urchin) being a local specialty (lunch is self-pay). We’ll then take a relaxing hot springs bath at Misaki no Yu Onsen, with outdoor baths overlooking the Sea of Japan, a memorable experience. On the way back to Sapporo, we’ll check out the sightseeing hotspots along the Sakaimachi Historical District & Otaru Canal, with its renovated warehouses & boutique shops, including the ever popular LaTao Chocolate, Kitaichi Glass & Music Box Museum shops.
