2-Day Tour: Asahidake & Sounkyo Snowshoeing
Make the most of your trip to Hokkaido on a 2-Day Tour with HNT! The tour starts with a drive to Asahikawa for the famous Penguin Parade at Asahiyama Zoo, followed by lunch in Asahikawa and a sake brewery tour. We’ll then head towards Asahidake Onsen, a remote onsen village tucked beneath the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range. On the way, we can fill up our water bottles at the voluminous Asahidake Freshwater Spring. At Asahidake, we’ll ride the ropeway to the winter wonderland of Sugatami Plateau, located at the foot of Mt. Asahidake. The overnight includes dinner & breakfast with a few accommodation options across the budget spectrum, with the Bear Monte Hotel being a popular choice.
On Day 2, we’ll check out the nearby Tenninkyo Gorge & Hagoromo Falls - the highest waterfall in Hokkaido - before driving to Sounkyo Gorge. On the way is the artist town of Higashikawa, where we can visit local galleries. After a late lunch at Sounkyo, we’ll go snowshoeing at the remarkable Sounkyo Gorge 8 Frozen Waterfalls trail, where frozen waterfalls line the gorge and wildlife spotting is nearly guaranteed. Lastly, we’ll take a soothing onsen at a 7th floor onsen with gorge views, and if the ice festival is ongoing (late Jan - mid-Mar), we can check that out as well (festival is self-pay). Join us for an unforgettable winter private tour which will be the highlight of your time in Hokkaido!
